Third Planet Environmental LLC is a consulting company based out of Oregon that provides inspection, survey, and testing of hazardous materials in residential and commercial properties.
RADON TESTING
We provide comprehensive testing of radon in your home or business to determine if the radioactive gas is present and to what levels they may exist in your building. A report will be provided with the findings of our testing and consultation on further mitigation measures that could be needed. Third Planet Environmental is not an abatement or construction company and has no conflict of interest in our findings.
RADON HOT SPOTS:
Northwestern Oregon, including the Columbia Gorge and Willamette River Valley, tends to be one of the areas of greatest known concern for radon exposure. It is recommended that all households and occupied buildings be tested for radon.
LUNG CANCER & RADON
Radon is a radioactive gas that is found naturally in the soil of the Northwest. Exposure to the odorless, tasteless, and invisible gas greatly increases your risk of lung cancer. Second only to smoking, radon is the leading contributor to lung cancer in America. The combination of both smoking and radon increase your chances ten-fold. There are no immediate symptoms to radon exposure and the adverse effects usually don’t present themselves for ten to twenty years after the fact. If you live in the Northwest it is important to test your living environment for radon.
WHERE IS RADON?
Radon gas levels vary depending on region in the Northwest, and are often found in larger concentrations in the Willamette Valley and Columbia Gorge. Radon slowly leaches up from the ground through various porous entry points in foundations of homes and businesses. Over time uranium decays into radium, and then breaks down into radon gas. The breakdown of the radon gas in your environment can create damage to lungs and cause cancer. The geology east of the Cascades lends itself to a predominance of radon as well, but unfortunately enough testing has not been done to create accurate data in much of the state.
