Third Planet Environmental LLC is a consulting company based out of Oregon that provides inspection, survey, and testing of hazardous materials in residential and commercial properties.
ASBESTOS SURVEY & TESTING
Working within your specific needs, we offer licensed inspection of your location to determine what materials may contain asbestos. Once the suspect materials are collected and tested, the findings will be further explained in a full report followed by consultation on how to proceed with your results. Third Planet Environmental is not an abatement company and has no conflict of interest in our findings.
STATE OF OREGON
DEQ REGULATION:
All commercial buildings regardless of construction date and residential buildings constructed before Jan. 1, 2004 must have an asbestos survey conducted by an accredited inspector prior to any demolition or renovation activities.
ASBESTOS CONTAINING MATERIALS
Asbestos containing materials (ACM) can be found almost anywhere in a building from the foundation to the roof and were prevalent in building materials used from 1940 to1980. Prior to being outlawed in use and production in the US in 1977, asbestos was used in many aspects of construction materials due to its incredible durability and fire resistant properties. Asbestos has been used in a variety of common materials such as insulation, flooring, glue mastics, siding, popcorn ceilings, and roofing materials just to name a few. We are licensed and trained to help identify these suspect materials in your home or business. Residential properties built before 2004 and all other buildings with plans for remodel, renovation, or demolition in Oregon require a proper survey from a licensed inspector before work can be started. Violations can carry hefty fines from the state. Landfills are requiring asbestos-free documentation to dispose of materials.
DANGERS OF ASBESTOS
Asbestos could be hiding almost anywhere you look. Generally it is safe in the materials around us until those asbestos containing materials become disturbed. When microscopic asbestos fibers become airborne (like during a remodel) they can bypass standard masks and enter the lungs and make tiny incisions in the tissue, which can lead to lung cancer, mesothelioma, asbestosis, and ovarian cancer. It is important to have a licensed professional assess, survey, sample, test, and provide an analysis of materials that pose a risk to avoid putting yourself, tenants, contractors, and waste management employees at risk.
